The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, is an autonomous technological university located in the state of Assam in India and is one among the thirty National Institutes of Technology in the country. It was set up in the year 1967 as a Regional Engineering College (REC) and was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology in the year 2002. Located in the beautiful town of Silchar in the state of Assam, the institute occupies 625 acres of beautiful greenery that are conducive for learning and overall development.
Research and innovation are two primary areas which are highly focused and encouraged at NIT Silchar and students along with faculty members are encouraged to think and question all the time. The institute at present provides undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral level programs in different fields of engineering such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Science, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. The curriculum is flexible enough to address the emerging needs in the marketplace, although collaborative learning and practical application of knowledge through laboratory, workshops, and projects are highly valued.
It has well developed infrastructure which provides laboratories, a central library which is centrally digitalized and has a good number of books and journals and a smart classroom facility. Further, NIT Silchar has many student affairs and societies that ensure the students have an active campus life and get interested in co-curricular activities like cultural events, technothlon etc.
NIT Silchar has also placed its students well with many students joining premier companies both Indian and international. There is a strong relationship with the internship, workshop, guest lectures by the industrial experts to make a connection between academia and industry.
